Caring for the Wood and Acrylics/Resins Whether you buy something of wood or of the man-made materials, caring for it is important but simple. For the most part, the natural oils in your hands will keep the pieces polished but you can use a natural wax polish if you wish; avoid extremes of temperature and humidity, and direct sunlight, and keep them dust-free, and they should give you many years of pleasure. Caring for the Pen Mechanisms and Nibs A fountain pen is a delicate instrument that can bring years of enjoyment when properly used and maintained. - Use only ink specifically designed for fountain pens; in particular, India ink and calligraphy inks can cause damage to fountain pen nibs.
- High quality ink jet paper works well with most fountain pens; avoid coated and low-quality paper. Wherever possible, use good quality paper designed for use with fountain pens.
- If you will not be using your pen for a while, remove and clean the nib and feeder mechanisms to prevent clogging. Store with the nib in an up-right position to allow the ink to drain from the nib.
- Pens should be cleaned approximately once per month. Disassemble the nib section and flush through with tepid (NOT hot) water; brush gently to remove any dried ink and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Blow out excess water before installing a new cartridge.
